Instructions for Saving PDF file to Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4) –

From the top menu, go to Settings > Edit Adobe PDF Settings.

In the dialog box, click on "General". Go to "Compatibility" and select "Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)".
Next, turn the Object-Level Compression to "Off". Then turn the Auto-Rotate Pages
to "Off". Make sure the resolution is set at 2540 dpi. Click on OK.

Go to "Images", and in the "Color Images" section, set the pixels per inch at 300,
and input 450 in the "for images above" box. Go to "Sampling" and select "Off".
Next, go to "Compression" and select "ZIP".
In the "Grayscale Images" section, set the pixels per inch at 300, and input 450
in the "for images above" box. Go to "Sampling" and select "Bicubic Downsampling
to". Next, go to "Compression" and select "ZIP".
In the "Monochrome Images" section, set "Sampling" to "Off". Click on OK.

Go to "Fonts" and make sure that there are no fonts in the "Never
Embed Font" box. Click on OK.

Go to "Color", and in the "Color Management Policies" section, select
"Convert All Colors to CMYK". Check off the "Preserve CMYK values for
calibrated CMYK color spaces" box, as well as the "Preserve Under Color
Removal and Black Generation" box. Click on OK.

Go to "Advanced" and check off the following boxes:
- Convert gradients to smooth shades
- Convert smooth lines to curves
- Preserve Overprint Settings
- Overprinting default is nonzero overprinting
- Save Adobe PDF Settings inside PDF file
- Save original JPEG images in PDF if possible
- Process DSC comments
- Preserve document information from DSC
- Resize page and center artwork for EPS files
Next, click on OK.

Go to "Standards" and make sure "Compliance Standard" is set to "None".
Ensure the numbers in the "If Neither TrimBox nor ArtBox are Specified"
section are all set to "0". Ensure the numbers in the "If BleedBox is
Not Specified" section are all set to "0". Click on OK.
